The exhibition [be]longing from home brought together a selection of paintings from my Equilibrium series, created over the past three years while building a new life in Spain.
Many of these works began as what I now call my “suitcase paintings.” At the time, I genuinely didn’t know where I would be living next. After leaving paintings behind during previous moves, I couldn’t bear the thought of losing them again. So I started creating works that could be rolled, packed into a suitcase, and travel with me if they ever had to.
At one point, I packed them because I believed I might be returning to Odesa. Instead, I returned to Spain. Later, those same paintings travelled with me to my exhibition in Margate, UK. Eventually, I realised I didn’t want fear to determine the size of my work anymore, and I began painting on larger canvases again.
Seeing this journey continue in Paris felt like the natural next chapter. Several paintings found new homes, and the exhibition received a warm response from visitors. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who came, shared conversations, and spent time with the work.
